Liverpool 5-0 Swansea – Reds Find Scoring Touch

Following a trip to Russia in the Europa League which included the usual dominance of chances and possession for Liverpool, without taking anything from the game, it was a refreshing experience to see Brendan Rodgers’ men get their just rewards on Sunday at home to Swansea. The final score of 5-0 was fully justified and a much needed boost before attempting to overturn the Zenith Saint Petersburg tie in the Europa League which Brendan Rodgers must now orchestrate a comeback from two goals down. Strength in Depth for Liverpool in 2012

(Note: by the time you read this, more moves might have taken place.  Such is the danger in posting a piece on transfer deadline day.)

Liverpool does not have the strength in depth to effectively challenge for the Premier League title this season.  There, I’ve said it.  No more beating around the bush or pretending otherwise.  It’s a fact.  If you disagree bless you, and I am not being sarcastic or disingenuous.  I’m not stopping there, however.  Liverpool does not have the strength in depth to contend for the top four this season.  Outrageous, eh?  Heresy, right?  What a load of bollocks, I hear you say… well, maybe not.  Let’s look at the situation in the cold hard light of a new Premier League campaign with the fourth manager in four seasons and an eighth place finish to hang LFC’s hat on. Jay Spearing goes on loan to Bolton

Liverpool announced that midfielder Jay Spearing will go on loan for the 2012/13 season. Spearing had apparent options as to where he wanted to play this season after being told by manager Brendan Rodgers that his chances would be limited at Liverpool, but the player chose to join newly relegated Bolton in the Championship.

Liverpool’s official website has this statement on the player:

The 23-year-old will spend the whole of 2012-13 with Owen Coyle’s side as they attempt to bounce back into the Barclays Premier League. []

Liverpool 1-1 Hearts – Reds Scrape Through

With eighty-five minutes on the clock there was there was mass hysteria as Scottish supporters celebrated inside Anfield after David Templeton’s shot was mishandled by Reina and leveled the aggregate score at 1-1. Fans ran onto the pitch and stewards were fully stretched to keep the celebrations from getting out of hand. Three minutes later and Luis Suarez had all but silenced the Hearts section. A left footed strike from an impossible angle swung the tie back in Liverpool’s favor and puts them in the Europa League proper. Continue reading
