Expectations were high going into Saturdays game against Aston Villa. Paul Lambert’s side aren’t exactly supposed to be challenging for the top four based on their recent history so this was a game Brendan Rodgers would have hoped his Liverpool side could dispatch quite easily. Villa scored an early scrappy goal through Gabriel Agbonlahor and held on quite easily against a side void of ideas in the end.
The Adam Lallana saga continues to roll on. Reports say that the Southampton midfielder has told the club he wants to leave St. Mary’s for a new challenge, which presumably means he wants to jump ship and join Liverpool after the World Cup.
It felt like a forgone conclusion that Adam Lallana will join Liverpool, but as time has gone on the transfer has come into doubt. Liverpool submitted a “final offer” last week for the Southampton midfielder and, despite rumors that the player wants the move to happen, nothing has officially happened. Now, Southampton has released a statement putting the whole transfer into doubt with a statement saying the club does not have to sell the player for any reason.
Liverpool is hoping their continued raid of Southampton continues. Up next on Liverpool’s radar is Adam Lallana, who is regarded to be one of Brendan Rodgers top transfer targets. The Reds have offered Southampton £25million for their club captain and hope he will follow Rickie Lambert to Anfield.
