Liverpool will host Jurgen Klopp and Borussia Dortmund on August 10 at Anfield in an exhibition match right before the start both teams’ seasons.
The last time Liverpool played Dortmund was 13 years ago in the Champions League. They have played each other only six times in their clubs’ respected histories.
“It has been over a decade since Borussia Dortmund played at Anfield so we are looking forward to welcoming them back,” Billy Hogan, chief commercial officer at LFC, told Liverpool’s official website. This fixture promises an electric atmosphere as both teams get ready for the upcoming season and the possibility of meeting again in the Champions League.”
Dortmund finished second in last year’s Bundesliga. They made it the Champions League final the year prior.
“The match between Liverpool FC and Borussia Dortmund is the meeting of two teams that have a lot in common: a rich history, unique fans and a passionate style of football,” Dortmund CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, said.
“We are honored and very much looking forward to playing in this iconic stadium.”
Dortmund were Liverpool’s opponents in the Reds’ first-ever European final, a 2-1 defeat, in the Cup Winners’ Cup showpiece of 1966.
Liverpool have already announced a pre-season trip to Preston, on Saturday July 19, and will play games against Roma, Olympiacos, Manchester City and AC Milan as part of their US tour.
