Liverpool’s pursuit of Seville left back Alberto Moreno continues to move in the right direction for the Reds as Sevilla’s president has said players can leave the club this summer if they want.
Liverpool has reportedly put in a bid for Moreno last week and even included midfielder Suso as a makeweight in the deal, but nothing formal has been announced and Liverpool is still waiting to finalize a deal for the 21-year-old Spanish defender.
The Liverpool Echo reports that Sevilla president Castro confirmed Liverpool’s pursuit of the player.
“It’s true that there’s interest from Liverpool and we’re waiting to see if that turns into a reality, which right now, it isn’t,” he said.
Castro said Sevilla does not need to sell any of its players, including midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who Liverpool has been reportedly interested in signing in the past. But the club will not let players go for cheap and will not be moved in the transfer market to sell players for under their evaluation of them.
Moreno is a prime target for the Reds because the team is in desperate need of depth at left back with Jose Enrique still returning from injury and Aly Cissokho’s loan spell from Valencia not being extended. Left back has been a revolving door of sorts for Liverpool with no one besides right back Jon Flannagan really being able to hold down the spot for a long period of time in recent seasons for one reason or another. Enrique has been underwhelming since joining Liverpool from Newcastle in the summer of 2011.
