Liverpool’s long pursuit of a serviceable and reliable left back seems to be reaching its conclusion with Alberto Moreno’s move to Anfield almost complete.
The 21-year-old defender had a standout season at Sevilla, shining in both La Liga and the Europa League, and is reportedly close to finalizing a move to join the Premier League’s runner-ups this summer.
Spanish newspaper Marca reports that a deal for Moreno is imminent and will be closer to 22 million, but will not include Suso going the other way. Moreno was part of Spain’s 30-man preliminary World Cup roster but was not included in the final 23 headed top Brazil.
Moreno is highly regarded and seems to be a player Liverpool will pay over the odds for because not only does he fill a need, but he also offers everything manager Brendan Rodgers wants in a player — he is fit, drive, quick and technically gifted. Liverpool played the majority of the second half of last season with Jon Flanagan, a right back, at left back because Jose Enrique was injured and the manager lost faith in Aly Cissokho, who was on loan from Valencia.
Moreno’s signature would be Liverpool’s second of the summer after the club completed the signing of Rickie Lambert over the weekend.
