Reports came out of Uruguay last week that Liverpool forward, and the Premier League’s best player last season, needed surgery on his knee and that his participation in the upcoming World Cup in Brazil was in jeopardy. Throngs of people swarmed to see him leave the hospital last Thursday after his procedure in the hopes of getting a glimpse of Uruguay’s magician and to see if he was really O.K. after surgery. Now, it looks like Suarez will be healthy and ready to take on England, which includes five of his Liverpool teammates.

“I spoke to him [Suarez] in the week,” Liverpool and England right back told the BBC. “He doesn’t think that it is that bad so he thinks he will be OK.”

Reports say that Suarez’s recovery could take anywhere from 15 days to four weeks. Uruguay takes on England at the World Cup on June 19th. It is the second game for both teams in Group D, which also includes Italy and Costa Rica.

Uruguay’s team doctor, Alberto Pan, would give an exact date for the forward’s return when asked.

“It is very risky to give exact dates. We cannot have absolute certainty or clear numbers but the post-operative period has been very good,” said Pan.  “Luis is not ruled out of the World Cup, but you cannot talk about specific times.

“Luis is very positive, I never heard a negative expression, and he says it is better every day,” he continued.

Suarez scored 31 goals in the Premier League this season and walked away with a number of personal awards. He helped lead Liverpool to its best finish, second, in the Premier League since the 2008-09 season despite missing five games through suspension.

He was expected to lead Uruguay to another successful World Cup run. In 2010 Uruguay made it to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
