Liverpool announced today that Luis Suarez was named Standard Charter Player of the Month for the month of December. Suarez was voted by the team’s fans as the player of the month, receiving 34 percent of the vote. Steven Gerrard finished second with 21 percent of the vote. Stewart Downing came in third with 14 percent of the vote.
“It’s extra special for me and other players because the supporters vote,” Suarez told Liverpool’s official site. “When you try your best on the pitch and the supporters are happy – and also for a striker to score at Anfield – it’s important.”
Suarez also won the award in September and October. Other winner’s this season so far are Joe Allen (August) and Jose Enrique (November).
