The fracture Fabio Borini sustained will require surgery, a club statement said today. An initial injury in the match against Manchester United last month was exacerbated when the Italian aggravate the injury while on national team duty, resulting in a fracture.
As per the club’s medical staff, the decision was made today on how to address Borini’s injury:
Borini was assessed by the club’s medical team upon his return to Melwood and a decision was made for the 21-year-old to have surgery.
Typically, an injury of this nature requires a three-month rehabilitation period.
This leaves Brendan Rodgers with the difficult task of playing until the new year with one senior striker in Luis Suarez. It underlines a difficult international break on the injury front for the reds who’ve seen Andre Wisdom and Pepe Reina also pick up knocks.
