Liverpool Defender Andre Wisdom Suffers Injury Setback while with England U21

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers must have done something to someone in a past life because he can’t catch a break right now. Today it was announced that Fabio Borini, one of Liverpool’s few experienced forwards, was injured while on duty with the Italian National Team. Now, it seems another Liverpool player is returning home early from international duty with an injury. Young and promising defender Andre Wisdom was sent back to Liverpool from England’s Under-21 team today with an injury.

England U21 coach Stuart Pearce confirmed with the England FA that Wisdom was returning home with a nagging shoulder injury:

However, there was some disappointing news for the Young Lions as Sterling’s Anfield team mate Andre Wisdom and Manchester United’s midfielder Nick Powell have returned to their clubs due to injury and illness.

“Andre went over on his shoulder playing for his club and it was something that just didn’t ease up at all,” revealed Pearce. “We got him on the training pitch on Wednesday but we just felt that it wasn’t easing up, so he’s gone back to Liverpool.

Rodgers told Liverpool’s official website he hopes to get left back Jose Enrique back from injury in the coming weeks, which will help with the thinning ranks:

“Hopefully within the next week to 10 days he’ll [Enrique] be back out on the training field and hopefully there will be no reaction.

“He’s a terrific player, Jose, and has got great qualities. We hope we can get him back sooner rather than later.”
