Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has impressed England manager Roy Hodgson enough with his performance in Liverpool’s midfield to be included in England’s squad for its upcoming World Cup 2014 qualifiers against San Marino and Poland. The 20-year-old midfielder joins his teammates Glen Johnson and Steven Gerrard for the trip.
Shelvey has represented England at U16, U17, U19 and U21 level. He played for Hodgson during his brief spell as Liverpool manager before moving on to West Brom and eventually England. Shelvey just finished he three game domestic ban after being sent off against Manchester United. He did play in the Europa League game in the midweek and scored one of Liverpool’s two goals in the 3-2 defeat to Udinese at Anfield. He has scored one goal in 728 minutes of Premier League play this season and created five chances.
