Everton’s Tribute to the 96

By Kevin Koczwara

Everton and Liverpool have a storied history and rivalry that goes beyond the field, but that doesn’t mean that the clubs don’t stand together when it comes to their city and the people who come from it. There may be bad blood on the field when these two teams meet, but that was forgone today at Goodison Park when Everton held a beautiful remembrance before its game with Newcastle United for the victims of the Hillsborough disaster.

A moving tribute for the 96 people who lost their lives at Hillsborough and had to suffer through years of cover-ups and lies was held by the Everton fateful. What a scene it was. And what a scene would unfold as Everton should have left the emotional day behind with three points and a win, but poor refereeing and the lack of goal-line technology denied the Blues.
