What to Make of Daniel Agger?

With Martin Skrtel on the verge of signing an improved four-year contract extension, Liverpool fans are left wondering what to make of the Daniel Agger situation. The Danish center back has explicitly stated that he has no desire to play for any English club other than Liverpool.

Liverpool may just make the transfer, even though I have two years left. But no, I have not changed my mind on the subject when I said I will not play for other English clubs than Liverpool, but sometimes you can still get in a situation where it’s not your decision.

I will not stay in a place where I am not wanted, but I’d rather be here. This is my priority.

“Lies, damned lies and statistics” – Five thoughts on Liverpool’s defense in 2011/12

Just as the 2011/12 season was one of disappointment, ultimately, for Liverpool, so to was it for the defense in particular, which despite sparkling during the first half of the campaign, seemed to lose its way in the second half of the season. Daniel Agger’s absence due to fractured ribs interrupted his finest season in a Liverpool shirt thus far, and Jose Enrique suffered an alarming drop in form as the season progressed. Not everything was negative for the defense, however, as in both Martin Kelly and Sebastian Coates, Liverpool appears to have two promising young players who will be challenging for first team spots for many years to come.  Continue reading
