A head-scratching moment occurred at Liverpool FC today regarding striker Luis Suarez’s contract situation at Anfield. At 9AM EST (2PM GMT) today LFCTV broadcast the news that Suarez had signed a contract extension at Liverpool, however the broadcast seems to have been a premature announcement.
LFC fans all over the web started tweeting, facebooking, and blogging the news immediately. The news came as a huge relief to Liverpool fans as Suarez has constantly been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer by some British tabloids.
At around 9AM EST (2PM GMT) LFCTV’s ‘LFC Now ‘ a 60 second news bulletin led with the words, “Liverpool today confirmed Luis Suarez has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
It then went on to say “The Uruguayan forward committed his future to the Reds by putting pen to paper on a deal on Tuesday afternoon. Following his involvement at the Olympics with Uruguay, Suarez returned to Melwood on…”
The broadcast then stalled, revealing the LFCTV equivalent of the blue-screen-of-death seen on computers from time to time, apologising for a temporary fault.

UPDATE: As of 1PM EST (6PM GMT) today, LFC announced that Luis Suarez has indeed signed a new long-term contract with the Reds. The earlier broadcast was clearly a PR blunder of the good kind!
